Real funerals in Kensington and Chelsea
The London Oratory, Brompton Road. Only 25 mourners could be inside for one Catholic Mass I streamed here, but more than 171 devices joined from nine countries. I used three cameras: two inside and one following the procession outside. Read the Oratory case study.
Brompton Cemetery. I photographed the graveside of a Greek Orthodox funeral that began at All Saints Cathedral in Camden, following the family from the funeral home to the cathedral and on to Brompton for the burial, so the family have pictures of the whole day. See the photographs.
Venues I work at here
Brompton Cemetery and Kensal Green Cemetery, with West London Crematorium inside it, are the borough's two great Victorian burial grounds; the borough also owns Gunnersbury Cemetery out towards Acton. For church funerals there's the Oratory, St Mary Abbots on Kensington Church Street, Chelsea Old Church on the embankment and St Luke's in Sydney Street. These buildings are grand and often dim, and light matters on camera.
