How to Watch a Funeral Live Stream
You do not need to download an app or create an account to watch a funeral live stream. The family will send you a viewing link, which you can open on a phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV before the service begins.
The dedicated live streaming page for the funeral is usually live around 20 minutes beforehand, so there is plenty of time to check the sound and settle before everything begins. After the service, the same link is used to watch the recording should you wish. There is never any additional charges for guests to watch a funeral live stream.
If you are arranging the stream rather than watching one, the service page is here: Funeral Live Streaming
How to Access a Funeral Live Stream
The family always decides who receives the funeral live streaming link. They send it ahead of time by text, email or WhatsApp. Once you have it, open the link and wait for the page to go live — usually around 20 minutes before the service.
If the family chose a password, that will be in the same message. Enter it when the page asks.
The viewing page is not listed on Google on Google as only people with the link can find it. A password is an extra step on top of that, used when the family wants tighter control over who can watch and have access.
How to Watch a Funeral Live Stream on a Phone or Tablet
Open the message shared by the family, tap the funeral streaming link, and let the page load. Turning the device sideways when the live stream begins and pressing the full screen button, will make the video go full screen and give you a larger picture. Ensure your volume is turned up. You can always use headphones if other people are in the room.
Try not to lock the phone during the service. Some devices pause the stream when the screen sleeps. If you can, keep the phone plugged in.
Using your phone is probably the easiest way for most people to watch a funeral live stream, including relatives who do not use a computer.
How to Watch a Funeral Live Stream on a Laptop
Open the live streaming link in Chrome, Safari, Edge or other browser. Use the full-screen control if you want the picture to fill the screen. Keep the laptop plugged in so it does not run out of power or go to sleep halfway through.
If more than one person in the house wants to watch, one laptop is often clearer for a group of people rather than several phones.
How to Watch a Funeral Live Stream on a Smart TV
Open the TV’s internet browser and enter the viewing link. Some families request a YouTube link, if we have provided this then you can open YouTube and search that way.
If typing the link on the TV is awkward, open it on a phone or laptop first and send it to the television with AirPlay, Chromecast or an HDMI cable. That is usually the simplest option for older relatives.
Turn the volume up before the service starts so you are not adjusting it during the first hymn or reading.
Can You Watch a Funeral Live Stream from Abroad?
Yes. A funeral live stream can be watched from abroad, as long as you have an internet connection. If the time difference means you cannot join live, use the same link afterwards as the recording is available as soon as the funeral ends for another 3 months. More detail is here: Can You Watch a Funeral Live Stream Later?
What If the Funeral Streaming Link Does Not Work?
Check the whole link was copied
Try a different browser
Check the Wi-Fi
Restart your device
Close all other apps on your device down
Ask the family whether a password was set
If the picture pauses, refresh the page. The service is being recorded at the same time, so a short break on your screen does not mean the funeral is lost.
How to Share a Funeral Streaming Link
Send the link at least 4-5 days before the funeral, not as people are leaving for the church. Include the time the page goes live, and the password if there is one.
A simple message is enough:
The funeral will be live streamed so all of you who are unable to be there on the day can join us online. Open this link 15-20 minutes before [time] and you will see the live stream appear once the videographer goes live. You can also use the same link afterwards to watch the recording.
Ask people not to post the link on public social media unless the page was set up to be openly shareable. Privacy options are explained on the funeral live streaming page.
