Real funerals in Battersea and Wandsworth
St Mary's Church, Battersea Church Road. In August 2026 I live streamed a funeral at St Mary's, the old church right on the Thames. I covered the service inside and the arrivals outside, so family watching from home saw the river setting as well as every reading, tribute and piece of music. St Mary of Debre Tsion, St Philip Street. This Ethiopian Orthodox funeral began at 8am, with the coffin wrapped in the Ethiopian flag and four priests chanting the Ge'ez liturgy. The stream then followed the family to the burial, in the rain, at Islington and St Pancras Cemetery. In all, 1,240 people watched live from 12 countries, 383 of them in Addis Ababa. Wandsworth Cemetery on Magdalen Road, Battersea St Mary's Cemetery off Bolingbroke Grove and Putney Vale serve most burials. For cremation, families go to Putney Vale or Lambeth Crematorium in Tooting, both a short drive away.
For relatives far away
This corner of London has strong Ethiopian, Eritrean and Caribbean communities, and the stream is often for grandparents in Addis Ababa or Asmara. I'll send a link and a short note on how to watch on a phone or TV. Early services suit Europe but not the Americas, so watching later matters: the replay stays up for 3 months.
