Real funerals in Croydon
Croydon Cemetery, three places in one day. In September 2025 I streamed the chapel service, the committal at the graveside and then the reception at The Ravensbury on Mitcham Road, all on one link for family overseas. They could stay with the day from the first hymn to the gathering afterwards.
St Constantine and St Helen, Upper Norwood. In July 2025 I streamed a Greek Orthodox funeral at this Crystal Palace church, with the committal at Streatham Park Cemetery. The service is chanted largely in Greek, so getting the sound right mattered as much as the cameras for relatives watching in Greece and Cyprus. Read about streaming that liturgy.
Croydon's cemeteries and crematoria
Croydon Crematorium and Croydon Cemetery share the big site on Mitcham Road, and Queen's Road Cemetery serves the north of the borough. Many families also use Beckenham Crematorium at Elmers End or Bandon Hill in Wallington. A move from a Norwood church to Mitcham Road takes planning, and the graveside part brings its own challenges.
Croydon's Caribbean and African congregations often have relatives in several time zones; they can catch up on the replay for 3 months.
